Oversize / overweight permit

Also: oversize permit · overweight permit · superload

State-issued authorization to move a load that exceeds legal size or weight limits on public roads, specifying the allowed route, times of travel and any escort requirements. Permits are per-state, so a multi-state haul stacks several, each with lead time. The largest loads (superloads) can need bridge analysis and utility coordination. Permit lead time, not trucking availability, is often the real constraint on the schedule.
