The window — usually a set number of calendar days — during which you can keep a container without incurring demurrage or per-diem charges. Free time for the box at the terminal and free time for the equipment once it leaves are tracked separately, and holidays and weekends usually still count. Knowing exactly how many free days a booking carries is the first step to avoiding accessorial charges.
